4 Elevated but Casual, Basics for Spring

Sometimes, style is not about a statement top or a jaw-dropping gown. For many of my clients, looking fabulous on the daily might simply come down to updating the basics.

Does basic mean boring? No! By updating a few staple items in your wardrobe to versions “with personality” you can elevate your whole wardrobe without buying tons of new tops or pieces. Looking stylish should not be saved just for special occasions. These casual staples feel super modern and fresh, while remaining casual and easy to pull-off.

Below are 4 of my favorite trends to elevate the everyday.

1. Mesh Ballet Flats

Ballet flats are back in a big way and luxury retailers literally can't keep the Alaia mesh or laser cut styles in stock. The mesh will make these breathable even in the hot, summer months. You can wear these with anything from a sundress to a floor-skimming jean.

2. The Drama Jean

It has been a while since we've seen pant hems kiss the floor, but in the wake of skinny jeans being officially "out" we are now seeing extra wide, extra long denim in their place. Whether you choose a pair with a higher or lower waist, the effect is elongating for the leg and gives you height. I love styling them with a kitten heel to keep the look sleek and avoid drowning in too much fabric.

3.The Tailored Vest

A tailored alternative to a classic tee, a vest is a great way to look more pulled together. This season, we are seeing styles with covered buttons and square or high necklines, alongside the classic v-neck versions. Try styling a vest with a cropped pair of jeans and loafers for effortless polish. For a wear-to-work version, create a modern 3-piece suit by adding a matching blazer and pant.

4. Sculptural, Shiny Jewelry

Whether you are a silver or gold lover, jewelry that is sculptural and shiny is the way to go this year. I love a bright silver earring with a crisp, white poplin shirt. Mixed metals also feel super fresh. Try layering two rings, one gold and one silver, that are otherwise similar in shape and shine.
