Natty Adventures in St Barths & Anguilla

2012 was a busy year.  To end it on a relaxing note, my friends and I escaped to the West Indies in the Caribbean ocean - where another friend had scored an incredible deal on a house for all of us to stay.  Island hopping from Anguilla to St. Barth’s, we counted our blessings while sinking our toes into the uber soft sandy beaches, and indulging in enough rum punch and rosé to last all year.

Highlights included a visit to a tiny little sand bar dubbed Sandy Island, shopping on St. Barths (where I picked up every neon tassel I could find), and of course celebrating the New Year by dancing the night away at The Viceroy Anguilla. To find out how I tackled these two islands "Natty style" - click below for my "Best Of" list - and plenty of photos to get you inspired for your next tropical travel!

BEST HOTEL Viceroy

This hotel is not only the best on the island, it’s one of the stunning hotels I’ve seen in a while.  Even if you don’t stay there – stop by for a drink during the day to take in the views, or have dinner at one of their delicious restaurants.

BEST DINNER RESTAURANT Vaya

My friend and I split the lobster, and when it came out - we almost screamed!  The thing was MASSIVE - more than enough for 2; and more importantly, it tasted as amazing as it looked.

BEST ISLAND EXPERIENCE Sandy Island

This tiny sliver of sand is just large enough to hold exactly one restaurant and nothing else.  Luckily, with food this delicious and drinks as strong as those served here – you really need nothing else.  Bring a towel and nap in the sun on the beach after a long boozy lunch.

BEST BEACH BAR Elvis’ Beach Bar

Wanna dance barefoot to island jams while the crashing waves keep the rhythm?  This is the place.  An overturned boat serves as the bar – and the sandy, wooden dance floor is the perfect spot to let loose.

ST BARTHS

BEST HOTEL Isle de France

This beautiful French hotel is tasteful, fresh and charming.  Exactly what you want and expect from an upscale beach vacation.

BEST LUNCH SPOT  Isle de France

I love Isle de France so much, that I had to award it two slots.  Sitting in the chic atmosphere of the hotel, situated ON the beach really can’t be beat.  Add to that impeccable service and delicious food – and you have a winner!

BEST CLASSIC ST. BARTHS BOUTIQUE Poupette

From printed bloomers to every possible cover up, sundress and caftan you could dream of – Poupette has it all.  I snatched up some signature, tasseled jewelry, which I can’t wait to wear again in the summer.

BEST MULTIBRAND BOUTIQUE Love the World St Barth

This tiny spot manages to pack in a variety of chic, beachwear including jewelry, totes and of course – cover-ups and caftans.  The well-edited selection and helpful staff set it apart from the rest.
