Some things just pair perfectly together: chocolate and red wine, Karl Lagerfeld and Choupette, Bert and Ernie... Photography and fashion is just such a coupling that has always gone hand in (well manicured) hand. So it makes sense that Canon would partner with Marchesa to launch it's newest camera, the itty bitty EOS Rebel SL1. To celebrate it's launch, the dynamic duo invited a handful of media and tastemakers to the Marchesa showroom for a day of pampering and dressing up, followed by a photo shoot! Who could say no?! 'Not I' said the fly. So, on a snowy Tuesday in December, up to midtown I went...
Upon entering the chandelier lit showroom, I was greeted with a spread of delicious food and drinks and gowns, gowns, gowns! Before the event we had selected our favorites to ensure that our sizes would be on hand - but nothing could have prepared me for the way these pieces look in person. Rich fabrics and ornate embroidery and beading winked at me from the shelves and racks, begging to be photographed. Luckily, I was soon handed my very own EOS Rebel SL1 to play with for the day. Immediately upon picking it up, I noticed how light and nimble the Rebel is. I found out that actually it's THE lightest and smallest DSLR camera available anywhere. Great news for ladies overstuffed handbags everywhere! When you're lugging around a camera at Fashion Week or on a vacation, every ounce and inch counts - so I got pretty excited about that little factoid. I could even hold it with one hand - essential for selfies!
Then it was off to get hair and makeup done, slip into a couple of these breathtaking dresses (including a version of the one Rachel McAdams wore in Cannes!) and smile for the camera. In these figure-flattering frocks, I felt like an absolute princess. My friend and fellow fashion blogger, Elizabeth Mineff of Haute Appetit joined me – and we giggled and cheesed while the photographer snapped away with the ‘little engine that could’ aka the EOS Rebel SL1. Finally, it was time to return to civilian clothes and trade in my lens. But hey, at least I got to keep the photos…
