The fashion industry is often accused of taking itself too seriously. So when fashion gets playful, there’s bound to be a celebration. Last week Vogue teamed with Fendi for just such a celebration at their Fifth ave flagship boutique, in honor of their new ‘Buggies’ collection. Perhaps not since Takashi’s Murakami collaboration with Louis Vuitton has such a storied design house launched a whimsical, character-based collection. With names like Lucifur, Furyou, Kooky and Dragoo – these furry friends, which can be attached to your keys or a handbag, are the lux equivalent of a Giga Pet. But the buggy details are carried throughout the accessories in other ways, from flats with ‘eyes’ to my favorite – the Peekaboo bag.
If the party’s guest list was any indication – these little critters are bound to be a hit... Beyonce’s younger sis, Solange Knowles and Vogue’s Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis cohosted; and Olivia Polermo, Grethchen Mol, Mia Moretti and Genevive Jones were among the bold face names who attended the soiree decked out in Fendi’s latest. The room was packed with dapper guests, and I chatted with friends both old and new while DJ Hannah Bronfman spun the soundtrack. No party is complete without a visit to the photobooth of course, where my friend Sian-Pierre and I practiced our best blue-steel faces.
